Last year I worked as a mountain bike guide in the French Alps, here I met two great people Dave & Myles. The three of us decided that when the summer season ended we would have ago at climbing Mont Blanc. None of us had attempted Mont Blanc before but decided to take the slightly harder route as the walkers route was somewhat un-safe. Once the climbing ban had been lifted after a number of people had been killed we decided that the window of opportunity had arrived. We camped over night close to the cable car station at the Aiguille du Midi, temp -15. At 1am we started our long climb which took us over the Mont Blanc du Tacul and also Mont Maudit. This route is quite technical in places and this was only my second Alpine Style Climb and my first real altitude ascent. At around 6am we got our first real view of Mont Blanc itself and she looked big. We had been hard at it for 5hrs with no water as it had frozen in the camel bacs. The last push up to the summit of Mont Blanc was a real slog and you really notice the altitude, even walking one or two paces you are out of breath. At 9am we reached the summit and well all I can say was that it was worth it. "Amazing" The descent was tough in places and we were all getting really tired. Some of the traversing was really steep with very few good anchor points. 12 hrs later we were back at base camp and packing up, once we reached the cable car station we were attacked by Japanese photographers. We all felt famous for about three seconds. Climbers Dave,Myles and Jason
